F U R N I sr - If You Are An Eye : Be quiet

A number of the image strips presented here consist of abstract granular etchnings, scribblings and lacerations. I want to emphasise that the abstract domain can be seen as a place of purity, a kind of modernist essence.

Yet it can also be seen as a safe place, a safe place where one can escape from trauma. In such a reading it can become a site and exposition of traumatic memory itself at a very basic, essential, primal level.

this image has been constructed by using felt pens to write "O" and "X" and by placing Indian Ink on a Paint Brush and then dobbing the paintbrush onto the frames which leaves air bubbles which dry into circles.
As trauma and abuse are registered in the body at this primal micro-organic level so the filmstrip can be marked as a metaphor or mirror to such cellular pain and healing.
