This shoe has travelled from Athens to Acland Street, from Mikanos to Mitford st, Byron Bay to Barkley St, to Amsterdam and beyond, and back home to the streets of St Kilda.

These steps have been hanging round the First Step clinic since its inception about 18 months ago. They sit beside the treatment bed and make it a little easier to scale it's heights.

The shoe belongs to one of our patients in recovery. We primarily treat heroin addicts. This shoe reminds her of her search for happiness, memories of despair, times of hope and times of failure. She has been clean for three months so far and is going strong.

Along with its memories this shoe remains to remind her of how far she has come, and the long road she must continue to travel to achieve her goal of a full and lasting recovery.
