As a member of the Collingwood Football Club I have an obvious identification with magpies. I like to wear magpie feathers in my hair when I go to the footy. In fact I am very surprised that more people don’t do the same thing. I pick up black and white feathers whenever I come across them on the ground.

The best place to go hunting for them is along Elwood Canal. Under the big trees down near Broadway is a never- fail location. Along the foreshore is good too. I suspect a lot of these feathers are actually seagull, not magpie, feathers.

However, the effect is the same. 2000 has been a great season for Collingwood and I got a lot of wear out of these. I aim to collect enough feathers to make an entire war-bonnet, which I will wear to the Collingwood/Richmond Grand Final in 2003.
