Project Developments
Experimenta’s
House of Tomorrow tour opened on the 7th of May at the Warrnambool
Art gallery. The ExperimentaLAB co-ordinator spent
the week preceding the opening assisting with the install and
troubleshooting with video works the artists were making. As
part of the install
tours of the show were given to interested participants from
Brophy house. These young people expressed an interest in working
on the
project and met with the artists at the exhibitions opening.
The
artists began weekly workshops with a group of 9 young people
who are clients of Kulcha shift, Brophy’s Youth Enterprise
initiative. They meet on Thursdays and are collaborating with
the artists in the editing of video work about Fletcher Jones.
Project Extension and Outcome
During
this period of time Experimenta received extra funding from
the Australia Council to extend the employment of the
project co-ordinator to support the project. As a result the
project has
gained an extra six weeks for the outcome, which is now planned
for July 30th at the Fletcher Jones factory. This will give
the team of artists more time for editing and construction
of the ball.
The project is also a grateful recepient of a grant
from the Ray & Joyce Uebergang Foundation.
As part of the artists’ professional development a briefing
session was held with the Warrnambool Art Gallery 2 months
to describe the work.

A scaled down model of the ‘Silver
Ball’ (used as a rain
water tank) at the Fletcher Jones Factory, Warrnambool will
be reconstructed and accommodate interactive audiovisual equipment.
The ‘Silver Ball’ will replicate its counterpart and
span 1.5m in diameter, be positioned on a tripod and a case
will house rigging/technical equipment at the base of the structure.
The
sphere will consist of up to three pneumatic doors that open
to reveal TV screens. Each screen will showcase short films
and clips created
and gathered throughout the duration of the Experimenta Lab
(Warrnambool) project. Each of the screens will be powered
by or triggered by different
mechanisms i.e. a sewing machine, bicycle and car seat with
peddles.

Presentation
Saturday 30th July, 4:30pm
Fletcher Jones Gardens
Artists are currently considering other locations to
present the ‘Silver Ball’ on Saturday 30 July and Sunday 31 July.
This could create a ‘mini tour’ of Warrnambool
and focus on three popular locations that are visible
and have easy access
for various members of the community.
