Experimenta is privileged to commission and mentor artists who extend the creative boundaries of technology in works of surprising potency and imagination.
Commissioning new work by Australian media artists is fundamental to our program of exhibitions and touring. Through the commissioning process Experimenta supports the artists to develop their work beyond the important stage of research and development to be works of art that will engage and thrill the imaginations of our audiences.
The program has nurtured new Australian talent by encouraging partnerships with industry, by providing mentoring throughout the development of the works, facilitating creative collaborations between artists and software programmers, sound engineers, scientists, and games technologists.
The commissioning program has produced highly successful artworks that have toured to 20 venues Australia wide. A selection of the works have also toured to London and Liverpool in 2006 as part of Undergrowth, an Australian government initiative to market Australian visual and performing arts to the UK.
Experimenta provides marketing support for the works and many have become much-loved audience favourites in each venue they are shown and attract favourable media attention.
