Commissioning new work by Australian media artists is fundamental to our program of exhibitions and touring. Through the commissioning process Experimenta supports artists to develop their work beyond the important stage of research and development to be works of art that will engage and thrill the imaginations of our audiences.
The program has nurtured new Australian talent by encouraging partnerships with industry, by providing mentoring throughout the development of the works, facilitating creative collaborations between artists and software programmers, sound engineers, scientists, and games technologists.
Experimenta provides marketing support for the works and many have become much-loved audience favourites in each venue they are shown and attract favourable media attention.
