Education

Experimenta offer a range of education programs tailored to suite a range of developmental levels, curriculum focus’ and learning objectives of tertiary, secondary and primary school students. These programs include hands-on workshops and school tours, artist talks, children’s activity sessions and specifically tailored education seminars. These programs are designed to reflect specific key curriculum areas such as Media, Visual Arts, ICT and facilitate achievment of VELS learning outcomes. Experimenta also offer professional development opportunities for teachers including teacher’s previews and hands on practical skill building workshops.

Sample programs

Media Tykes

A special interactive and engaging early childhood program developed for children aged 0 – 5yrs and their families encouraging them to learn about art through play while activating the artworks in Experimenta exhibitions and having fun at the same time!

Teachers Preview

Primary, secondary and tertiary teachers are invited to attend a free teacher professional delvelopment session in the gallery, giving them the chance to engage and interact with the works in Experimenta’s exhibitions before they bring their classes for a visit. As part of the preview, gallery educators, Experimenta education staff or exhibition curators expand on the themes, ideas and techniques explored within the exhibition and how these can be utilised and unpacked in a classroom context.

School Tours

Age specific, hands-on guided tours allow students to bring the artworks in the exhibition to life and to learn more about the artists and technologies involved in their creation.

Specialised Education Programs

Senior Student Study Mornings are designed for VCE, VCAL, VET and tertiary students studying multimedia, film, animation, design, visual arts and/or sound. These mornings provide the opportunity for budding moving image-makers and media artists to converse with contemporary media artists and curators and gain an in-depth insight into the themes and techniques in Experimenta’s exhibitions.

Workshops

Experimenta work closely with Australian and International guest artists to develop tecnology focused skill based workshops that enable students to be inspired by and experiment with the creative processes utilized by artists to make technology based artworks. Experimenta past workshops have included basic programming, sound, digital storytelling, electronics and animation.
